  10. I would try adding &Q9 to the modem's init string.  The RPI modems 
  11. shouldn't have any problems negotiation LAP-M only, and it will help 
  12. with the MegaHertz as well.  It will disable MNP modes of operation, 
  13. which would not be good if any of your callers use that instead of 
  14. V.42bis/lap-m.
